The Music Time

by Julie Christensen

/

about

I started writing this song last year when I got to thinking all the music out there now is available for free in 1s and 0s, and we're no longer all around one bonfire called FM radio, just in our little echo chambers...

lyrics

THE MUSIC TIME
© Julie Christensen & Dave Christensen 2018

Lyin’ on our backs in the dark
Listening to the records go around
Rollin’ smokes in the double album jackets
Reading who made the sounds
Kept my cassette deck under the driver’s seat
While I was writing a song
After I got off from a hard day of work
It never would be long
Til somebody’d break out the guitar or stereo
And crank up the jams
Yeah, me and them were around in the music time

The radio would play the long version
Then there’d be some quiet air
And if you didn’t know why that was,
Man you were impossibly square.
Friends would turn me on to The Byrds and Gram, The Louvins, Loretta
I found out on my own about The Band, and Mavis, —Etta
Playin’ all the vinyl over and over ’til we learned the songs
Yeah, me and them were around in the music time
Yeah, me and them were around in the music time

Wolfman Jack hollered up from out of Little Rock
Huggy Boy from the Border Radio___
We all know where we were when we heard
“Four Dead in Ohio.”
Me and them were around in the music time

solo/horn line over vamp 4x

Sisters sang with Dr. John in New Orleans
The Swampers backed up Aretha in Muscle Shoals
We all know where we were when we heard
“Four Dead in Ohio.”
Me and them were around in the music time
Yeah, me and them were around in the music time
Yeah, me and them were around in the music time
